Missions of the City of Torino abroad
Mayor Stefano Lo Russo, along with a delegation from the Politecnico di Torino led by Rector Stefano Corgnati, carried out an official mission to Brazil, visiting São Paulo, Campinas, Campo Grande, and Brasília. The trip aimed to strengthen Torino’s international relations in research, innovation, higher education, and cooperation.
The Deputy Mayor for Sport and Major Events Domenico Carretta represented the City of Torino at the 20th International Travel Expo in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s leading international tourism trade fair. For 2026, the organizers identified Western Europe as one of the priority markets for the development of tourism flows, making Torino’s participation strategically important for strengthening its international visibility.
Jacopo Suppo, Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Turin, participated on behalf of the Mayor in the “Dialogue @AECD 2027” panel, organized by the Arab European Cities Dialogue and hosted by the Arab Urban Development Institute. The event focused on cooperation between Arab and European cities, highlighting successful partnership experiences and emphasizing city diplomacy, knowledge exchange and sustainable development.
Mayor Stefano Lo Russo led a joint mission to Qatar involving the City of Torino, Politecnico di Torino and the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, aimed at strengthening relations in the fields of culture, research, innovation and urban development. Meetings with Qatar Museums and local institutions opened new opportunities for cultural and academic cooperation. The mission also strengthened the partnership between Politecnico di Torino and Hamad Bin Khalifa University through new joint academic programmes. Furthermore, the mission promoted Turin’s model as an international example of integration between culture, technology, research, and social development.
Marco Porcedda, Deputy Mayor for Legality and Security, travelled to Brussels to participate in the conference “Cities and Drugs: Towards Local Governance Balancing Security, Health and Social Cohesion” and in the General Assembly of the Efus network - European Forum for Urban Security.
Mayor Stefano Lo Russo participated in the OECD Global Forum on Local Development in Maastricht, one of the main international platforms dedicated to local economic development.
The Deputy Mayor for Educational and Youth Policies, Carlotta Salerno, participated in the 18th International Congress of Educational Cities held in Granollers (Barcelona), an opportunity for exchange between cities committed to promoting inclusive educational policies, sustainable urban development, and support for young generations.
Francesco Tresso, Deputy Mayor for Civil Protection, Public Green Spaces and Riverbanks, took part in the international conference The Skopje Project 2026: Culture, Urban Policies and Sustainable European Cities, delivering a short presentation on Torino’s urban transformation policies.
Deputy Mayor Michela Favaro took part in the International Aerospace Innovation Forum in Montreal as part of a mission to Quebec together with the Piedmont Region, Unioncamere Piemonte, the Torino Chamber of Commerce, Ceipiemonte, and representatives of the research and innovation ecosystem.
The Mayor of Torino and Vice President of ANCI, Stefano Lo Russo, participeted in a mission in Kenya organized by the Directorate-General for Development Cooperation and the Mattei Plan Mission Structure. The initiative highlighted new opportunities for collaboration for Italian municipalities, enhancing their expertise in urban planning, registry services, and digitalization.
The Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning and Infrastructures, Paolo Mazzoleni, participated in MIPIM, the main international event dedicated to the real estate market and urban transformation. The event provided an opportunity to present the development projects of Torino, highlighting how the city today enjoys increasing visibility and is ready to attract investments even in the short term.
Mayor Stefano Lo Russo traveled to Rio de Janeiro to attend the 2025 World Summit of Mayors of the global C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) network, which brings together Mayors from the world's major cities to collaborate and take action against the climate crisis.
The Mayor participated in the panel entitled “Energy transition in practice: decarbonising cities by 2030”, and in the meeting “European Mayors gathered: boosting Europe's role in a changing world”.
Mayor Stefano Lo Russo travelled to Japan to take part in the celebrations marking the twentieth anniversary of the friendship between Torino and Nagoya. He also attended the week dedicated to the Piedmont Region at Expo 2025 in Osaka and the official inauguration of the new Tokyo headquarters of the Politecnico di Torino's Japan Hub.

The aim of the mission was to strengthen relations between Torino and Argentina's major cities, promote Torino's role as a hub for innovation, culture, sustainability, tourism, research and higher education, and encourage the creation of academic networks between the Politecnico and local universities.
Deputy Mayor Chiara Foglietta and Director General Alessandra Cimadom attended the presentation in London of the guide ‘Innovation Districts and Local Communities: A Field Guide for Action’, produced by Bloomberg Associates with institutional partners in London. The event brought together administrators, academics, the private sector and local communities to discuss urban development models based on inclusive innovation.
